Genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation and risk of cardiovascular disease in a Chinese population
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders May 21, 2021
Gao Y, Pang H, Chen B, et al. - Researchers investigated DNA methylation sites related to the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) as well as further explore their potential predictive worth in CVD development for high-risk individuals. To detect CpGs linked with CVD development in a Chinese population, experts conducted an epigenome-wide association study. Following adjustment for cell components, demographic and cardiac risk factors and the first 5 principal components, they discovered 8 significant CpGs linked with the risk of CVD in the discovery set. Using another independent set, they replicated two of these identified CpGs (cg06901278 and cg09306458 in UACA). As demonstrated by receiver operating characteristic analysis, much better predictive impact for CVD occurrence was conferred by the model integrated 8 CVD-related CpGs with baseline features vs the model with baseline characteristics only. Overall, not only the novel CpGs related to CVD occurrence were unveiled but also their additional predictive power in the risk of CVD for high-risk people was revealed in this study.
