Gender and age differences in outcomes of patients with acute coronary syndromes referred for coronary angiography

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Oct 11, 2018

Stahli BE, et al. - Researchers examined gender- and age-related differences in outcomes in elderly patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) who were referred for coronary angiography and prospectively enrolled in the Swiss ACS Cohort between December 2009 and October 2012. The estimated 1-year major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) rates were 15% and 23% in women and men, respectively, in patients aged > 75 years. A lower cardiovascular mortality was observed in women aged > 75 years. No gender-related disparities in 1-year MACCE rates were evident in patients aged ≤ 75 years. For women and men, the estimated rates of TIMI major bleeding were 4% and 4% in patients aged > 75 years, respectively, and 5% and 3% in those aged ≤ 75 years, respectively.
