Full-fat dairy food intake is associated with a lower risk of incident diabetes among American Indians with low total dairy food intake
The Journal of Nutrition Jul 05, 2019
Kummer K, et al. - Among American Indians from the Strong Heart Family Study (SHFS), researchers assessed the relationship of full- and low-fat dairy food intake and incident diabetes in this population with a high burden of diabetes. At baseline, participants were aged 14–86 years, among whom females constituted 60.8%. A mean follow-up of 11 years revealed 277 cases of diabetes. Low dairy food consumption was reported by American Indians who participated in the SHFS. Lower risk of diabetes was reported in relation to higher full-fat dairy food intake vs lower intake.
