Fruit and vegetable intake and pancreatic cancer risk in a population-based cohort study in Japan
International Journal of Cancer Feb 21, 2019
Yamagiwa Y, et al. - Given the high antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties found in fruits and vegetables, researchers investigated the impact of fruit and vegetable intake on pancreatic cancer risk as part of the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study. To that end, they assessed 90,185 participants who responded to a medical and lifestyle questionnaire from 1995 to 1998, and identified inverse and positive associations of total fruit intake and total vegetable intake, respectively, with pancreatic cancer risk. According to findings, vegetable intake may correlate with increased risk, which may, in part, be due to the influence of smoking on vegetable intake.
