Frailty predicts short-term survival even in older adults without multimorbidity
European Journal of Internal Medicine Jun 28, 2018
Zucchelli A, et al. - Using data from the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K), the researchers examined whether, and to what extent, frailty without multimorbidity plays an independent role in shortening life. Participants in the study were 3363 adults aged 60+. In a cohort of older adults free from multimorbidity, physical frailty and pre-frailty were correlated with short-term mortality. Even among subjects without multiple chronic conditions, frailty could be a clinical indicator of increased risk of negative health outcomes.
