Follicle flushing does not improve live birth and increases procedure time: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Fertility and Sterility Mar 11, 2021
Martini AE, Dunn DOA, Wells L, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis with the aim to examine if improvement in live birth or secondary outcomes in assisted reproductive technology (ART) occurs by performing follicle flushing during oocyte retrieval. Searching PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Database, and Web of Science for randomized controlled trials comparing follicle flushing to direct aspiration during oocyte retrieval published in English, they identified 11 studies for inclusion totaling 1,178 cases. Outcomes revealed increase in procedure time and no improvement in live birth or secondary ART outcomes in correlation with performing follicle flushing during oocyte retrieval. No support was thus provided by randomized data to the use of follicle flushing as an intervention in ART.
