Baker KE - The researcher reported health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among US transgender adults investigated via the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)—the largest continuously operating health survey in the world that is fielded annually by every state. The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity module was used. The likelihood of reporting diminished HRQOL in the past 30 days was greater among transgender adults, as measured by greater odds of fair or poor health or severe mental distress. Furthermore, more days of combined poor physical and mental health and of activity limitation were reported by transgender adults. Previous studies results showing severe health and HRQOL differences influencing the transgender population were corroborated. The investigators cautioned that these findings have limited generalizability until all states and territories field the BRFSS Sexual Orientation and Gender Module.
