Failure rate in pediatric cochlear implantation and hearing results following revision surgery

Gardner PA, et al. - Researchers evaluated the experience with cochlear implant failure, revision, and hearing results when available to better guide the preoperative counselling of families considering cochlear implantation. The most common complication of surgery was cochlear implant device failure. Fortunately, no decline in auditory performance was revealed with hearing outcomes following revision surgery, evaluated with pure tone average, revealed no decline in auditory performance. Similar pre-failure and post revision surgery pure tone average was demonstrated by the findings.
