Factors predicting postoperative febrile urinary tract infection following percutaneous nephrolithotomy in prepubertal children
Journal of Pediatric Urology May 11, 2018
Kaygisiz O, et al. - Authors evaluated the predictive factors of febrile urinary tract infection (FUTI) in prepubertal children after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and ascertain if any prophylactic cephalosporins were superior for decreasing the FUTI rate. Results demonstrated that for FUTI the risk factors were, younger age, right-sided PCNL, staghorn stones, mini-PCNL, longer operative time, and blood transfusion. An equal effectiveness of first-, second-, and third-generation cephalosporins for prophylaxis in prepubertal children undergoing PCNL was found.
