Factors influencing adherence to treatment in older adults with hypertension
Clinical Interventions in Aging Dec 05, 2018
Uchmanowicz B, et al. - In older adults with hypertension (HT), researchers identified demographic, socioeconomic, and clinical factors that affect adherence. Study participants were 150 patients (84 women and 66 men) with mean age of 72.1 years. They used the Hill-Bone Compliance to High Blood Pressure Therapy Scale (Hill-Bone CHBPTS) to assess the adherence to therapeutic recommendations for HT. In explaining the adherence rates, the variables of age, education level, and living with the family were statistically significant. They suggested that health care professionals should pay more attention to older HT patients with low education and lack of social assistance. This patient group needs a tailored education to better understand and adhere to medication treatment.
