Factors affecting N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels in preterm infants and use in determination of haemodynamic significance of patent ductus arteriosus

European Journal of Pediatrics Mar 18, 2018

Harris SL, et al. - The goal of this research was to scrutinize the factors affecting N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) in preterm infants and the ability of NTproBNP to speculate haemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (HsPDA). It was determined that NTproBNP displayed only a modest ability to predict severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Additionally, data exhibited that chronological but not gestational age affected NTproBNP. Ventilation, hypoxia and haemoglobin levels did not exert an impact on NTproBNP, however, creatinine level was positively inter-connected. The inference drawn was that day 3 NTproBNP was a useful biomarker to predict HsPDA.
