Examining the associations of sexual minority stressors and past-year depression with overeating and binge eating in a diverse community sample of sexual minority women

Eating Behaviours Aug 19, 2021

Ancheta AJ, Caceres BA, Zollweg SS, et al. - Findings from a diverse, community-based sample of sexual minority women (SMW) suggest that it is important to screen SMW for stigma consciousness as a correlate of overeating and to consider racial and ethnic disparities in overeating and binge eating in this population.

  • Greater odds of overeating were observed in correlation with stigma consciousness among Latina sexual minority women (SMW) relative to White SMW and African American SMW.

  • Depression did not explain relationships between stigma consciousness with overeating.

  • Neither discrimination nor internalized homophobia linked with overeating or binge eating.
