Evolution of survival in cardiac arrest with age in elderly patients: Is resuscitation a dead end?

The Journal of Emergency Medicine Dec 26, 2017

Segal N, et al. - In this work, researchers primarily aimed to delineate the differences in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (CA) survival rates according to age stratification based on the French National CA registry (RéAC). Secondarily, they analyzed the differences in resuscitation interventions according to age. Findings revealed a linear decrease of survival (by 3% every 5 years) in older persons. However, this reduced rate of survival might be due to a shorter duration and less advanced life support.
