Evaluation of the effect of 100U of Onabotulinum toxin A on detrusor contractility in women with idiopathic OAB: A multicentre prospective study

Neurourology and Urodynamics Oct 25, 2021

De Rienzo G, Minafra P, Iliano E, et al. - Findings demonstrate effectiveness of detrusor injection of botulinum toxin in the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB), and this treatment option did not result in voiding dysfunction and bladder contractility (BC) impairment.

  • A prospective multi-institutional observational study of 45 women who were given BTX-A (Intradetrusor injection of Onabotulinum Toxin A) 100U for idiopathic OAB.

  • PIP1 (Modified Projected Isovolumetric Pressure) did not change, and there was a postoperative improvement in the 24-h pad test, daily voids, and nocturia.

  • Urodynamics revealed that detrusor overactivity rate was significantly reduced and median maximum cystometric capacity increased.

  • There was no difference in median maximum flow rate (Qmax), detrusor pressure at Qmax, and postvoid residual volume, and postoperative catheterization was not required in patients.
