Evaluation of laser therapy and alpha-lipoic acid for the treatment of burning mouth syndrome: A randomized clinical trial
Lasers in Medical Science Mar 09, 2018
Barbosa NG, et al. - Authors herein assessed the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) in the treatment of burning mouth syndrome (BMS) and secondary oral burning (SOB) by unstimulated sialometry, symptom assessment, and measurement of salivary TNF- α levels. They found that between subjects with BMS and SOB or between those subjects and the control group, TNF-α levels did not differ posttreatment. For reducing burning mouth symptoms, low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) were found to be effective therapies, with LLLT being more efficient than ALA.
