Evaluation of an aggressive prostate biopsy strategy in men younger than 50 years of age
The Journal of Urology May 18, 2018
Goldberg H, et al. - Authors ascertained the proportion of detected cancer and specifically, clinical significant cancer aggressive biopsy strategy among younger patients with prostate cancer (PC). They queried the prostate biopsy (PB) database at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for patients younger than 50 who underwent a first PB between 2000 and 2016. Adoption of an aggressive PB strategy for young men<50 years old with a PSA>1.5 ng/ml was justified in the findings. Patients with PSAs<1.5 ng/ml were unlikely to have significant cancer. Patients with smaller prostates and positive family history (PFH) required special attention.
