Epstein-barr virus presence as a potential etiology of persistent bladder inflammation in human interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome

Jhang JF, et al. - Researchers assessed the presence of Epstein-Barr infection as a potential etiologic cause of Persistent Bladder inflammation in interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome. They obtained the bladder specimens from patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome and patients with stress urinary incontinence (control). Findings demonstrated that in patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, bladder EBV infection in T cells could be linked to the pathogenesis of persistent inflammation.
