Eosinophils count in peripheral circulation is associated with coronary artery disease
Atherosclerosis Jun 04, 2019
Gao S, et al. - In this study including 5,287 patients who had coronary angiography, researchers focused on the link between eosinophil count and coronary artery disease (CAD) as well as if eosinophils could predict CAD. Measurements of biochemical parameters, including eosinophil count, were obtained and assessed for correlation with the severity of coronary artery stenosis, as quantified by the Gensini score system. A possible strong association of percentages of eosinophils in leukocytes with the subtype and severity of CAD was suggested in this study, at least in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Thus, a possible utility of eosinophil count as an accurate and independent predictor of CAD severity and acute coronary arterial thrombotic events was suggested. Low percentages of eosinophils in leukocytes were strongly related with severe CAD and acute coronary arterial thrombotic event.
