Endogenous estrogen exposure and chronic kidney disease: A 15-year prospective cohort study

BMC Endocrine Disorders Aug 10, 2021

Farahmand M, Tehrani FR, Khalili D, et al. - Women who exhibited low endogenous estrogen exposure (EEE) levels were found to have a higher hazard ratio of chronic kidney disease (CKD) incidence in their later life, and thus may be considered for CKD screening.

  • A prospective population-based study with 15-year follow-up.

  • Total 3,043 eligible women aged 30–70 years were included.

  • Total cumulative incidence rate of CKD was 50.1 per 1000 person years.

  • This was 53.9 and 47.1 per 1000 person years in women with EEE < 11 and EEE ≥ 11 years, respectively.
