Emergent start peritoneal dialysis for end-stage renal disease: Outcomes and advantages

Nayak KS, et al. - Initiating renal replacement therapy in late referred patients with central venous catheter (CVC) hemodialysis (HD) causes serious complications. In this prospective, case-controlled, intention-to-treat study, researchers assessed the outcomes as well as benefits of initiating Emergent start PD (ESPD) with Automated PD (APD) within 48 h from the time of presentation. Based on the findings, they concluded that ESPD with APD in the unplanned patient is an appropriate approach.
