Efficacy of mechanical debridement with adjunctive probiotic therapy in the treatment of peri-implant mucositis in cigarette-smokers and never-smokers
Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research May 22, 2019
Alqahtani F, et al. - Mechanical debridement (MD) with adjunctive probiotic therapy (PT) was examined for efficacy in the treatment of peri-implant mucositis (PiM) in cigarette-smoking and never-smoking individuals. Participants were 80 individuals (group I: 40 cigarette-smokers and group II: 40 never-smokers) with PiM. Among never-smokers, MD with adjunct PT vs MD alone was more effective in the treatment of PiM, on a short-term basis. Following MD with or without adjunct PT, peri-implant soft tissue healing was noted to be compromised when cigarette-smoking was evident.
