Efficacy of IPL therapy for the treatment of acne vulgaris: A meta‐analysis
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Jul 29, 2020
Lu L, et al. - In this investigation involving 450 patients, researchers sought to evaluate the efficiency and safety of intense pulse light (IPL) in the treatment of acne vulgaris. Electronic databases, including Embase, Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE, have been retrieved to identify related studies. No statistically significant difference was found in the efficiency between IPL and other treatments for noninflammatory acne lesion improvement. Erythema and pain were the most common with regard to adverse effects. IPL is not as effective as any other supplementary therapy. IPL's effectiveness for inflammatory acne lesions is weaker than PDT's. Difference in geographic regions will affect the effectiveness of the IPL. Nonetheless, due to the heterogeneities and the lack of large sample sized studies, the findings obtained in this study should be carefully interpreted.
