Efficacy of a newly-developed mouth gel for xerostomia relief- A randomized double-blind trial
Oral Diseases Apr 15, 2019
Barbe AG, et al. - In this randomized, double-blind, crossover trial, researchers compared a new symptom-relieving mouth gel (Dr. Wolff Gel) with a widely-used control gel (Biotene) regarding the efficacy on the xerostomic burden. After 7-day application, reduction in xerostomic burden (xVAS) could not be achieved with either of the gel. The test gel was somewhat preferred regarding taste and healthy gum feeling. After 1-time application, differences favoring the test gel for symptom-relieving effects between test gel and water, mucosal adhesion, and taste persistence were noted. Overall the test gel led to symptomatic relief that lasted around 2 hours.
