Efficacy and safety of triple vs dual combination blood pressure-lowering drug therapy: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Journal of Hypertension Jul 03, 2019
Salam A, et al. – Researchers assessed the effectiveness and safety of triple vs dual combination therapy for the management of hypertension using random-effects model. There were 11,457 participants included in the study. Adding a third drug achieved, on average, approximately four times greater blood pressure reduction compared with doubling the dose of dual therapy component drugs for patients with uncontrolled blood pressure on submaximal dose dual therapy. The investigators suggested that the addition of a third drug might be more effective without increasing adverse events compared with increasing the dose of existing dual therapy. Early initiation of triple therapy can significantly improve hypertension control, according to findings.
