Efficacy and safety of chemopreventive agents on colorectal cancer incidence and mortality: Systematic review and network meta-analysis

Clinical Epidemiology Oct 18, 2018

Veettil SK, et al. – Researchers conducted this systematic review and network meta-analysis to determine the relative effectiveness and safety of various chemopreventive agents (CPAs) on colorectal cancers (CRC) incidence and mortality in persons at average risk. Early and long-term CRC incidence and mortality were the primary outcomes. They found that aspirin was the only intervention that exhibited protective effects with potential dose-dependent effects; none of the other CPAs evaluated were found to be effective. Overall, findings indicated that, among people at average risk, aspirin at the dose range of 75–325 mg/day may be a safe and effective primary prevention for long-term CRC.
