Effects of postoperative total hip arthroplasty on axial alignment of the lower limb in patients with unilateral developmental hip dysplasia (Crowe type IV)
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 26, 2019
Zhao HY, et al. - Medical records of 50 individuals who underwent total hip arthroplasty with or without femoral shortening osteotomy were investigated to delineate the impact of total hip arthroplasty on axial alignment of the lower limb in unilateral developmental hip dysplasia (Crowe type IV) cases. Compared to the contralateral limb, the significant valgus deformity was noticed in preoperative mechanical axis deviation (MAD), tibiofemoral angle (TFA), hip-knee-ankle angle (HKA), and mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (LDFA) of the ipsilateral lower limb. By a mean of 2.54 cm, ipsilateral extremities were extended. Larger LDFA, TAF, and HKA but marginally smaller MAD and medial proximal tibial angle after surgery than before were noted in the contralateral lower limb.
