Effects of clopidogrel with or without aspirin on the generation of extracellular vesicles in the microcirculation and in venous blood: A randomized placebo controlled trial
Thrombosis Research May 27, 2018
Traby L, et al. - In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the researchers examined the impact of dual-antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) compared with single-antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) on extracellular vesicles (EV). For this investigation, forty-four healthy volunteers received DAPT (clopidogrel + aspirin) or SAPT (clopidogrel + placebo) for 7 days. They used non-parametric tests to assess the short-term (baseline {BL} vs 2 h) and long-term differences (2 h to 8 days), as well as the differences between treatment groups. Results revealed that no difference was found between dual- and single-antiplatelet therapy in healthy volunteers. The findings suggested that DAPT and SAPT have comparable effects on the amount, origin, and surface characteristics of EV.
