Maciolek KA, et al. - In order to evaluate the high-risk patients for bleeding or infectious complications and use risk-tailored antimicrobials, patient education, and postbiopsy monitoring with the objective of reducing complications researchers prospectively implemented a prostate biopsy protocol. A targeted approach for selecting prophylactic antimicrobials and closer monitoring postbiopsy for bleeding was a screening protocol before prostate biopsy. A favorable effect of the protocol on complication and hospitalization rates was seen.
