Effect of various bleaching agents on the surface composition and bond strength of a calcium silicate-based cement
Operative Dentistry Apr 05, 2018
Eren SK, et al. - Experts assessed the morphological and elemental changes that occurred on the surface of calcium silicate–based cement (CSC). They also evaluated the bond strength of composite resin to CSC after application of various bleaching agents. Compared with the remaining groups, the cement surface in the carbamide peroxide gel (CP) and hydrogen peroxide (HP) groups presented changes in structure and elemental distribution. A decrease in the calcium level and an increase in the silicon level were exhibited by CP and HP groups and these groups presented significantly fewer shear bond strength (SBS) values than the remaining groups. As per the data, the deterioration of the cement surface was induced by the bleaching agents with higher concentration and it negatively affected the bond strength of the composite resin to CSC. When intracoronal bleaching was performed with a mixture of sodium perborate with water or 3% H2O2, the use of CSC was recommended as a cervical barrier.
