Clinical Interventions in Aging May 24, 2018
Kenzaka T, et al. - Whether the day of starting oral intake affects the clinical course of patients with aspiration pneumonia, was investigated in this retrospective cohort study. On the basis of the day of starting oral intake, two groups of patients were formed: Monday to Friday (midweek group) and Saturday or Sunday (weekend group). They carried out multivariate analysis using hospital duration and discontinuation of oral intake due to aspiration as the dependent variables. Among study populace including 244 men and 148 women with a mean age of 79.3 ± 13.1 years, a shorter total hospital duration and a lower incidence of discontinuation of oral intake due to aspiration were observed in the weekend group.
