Effect of resistance training on inflammatory markers of older adults: A meta-analysis
Experimental Gerontology Aug 09, 2018
Sardeli AV, et al. - Researchers assessed the impacts of regular resistance training (RT) on inflammatory markers in older adults. For this purpose, they analyzed randomized controlled trials identified via MEDLINE in July 2017 that reported the effects of RT on C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and/or interleukin-6 (IL-6) in adults over 50 years. They observed that anti-inflammatory effects of RT were significant only for CRP, while RT showed a tendency to decrease IL-6. In the exploratory analyses, increases in muscle mass and higher volume of RT protocols were suggested as the factors that determined the reduction in inflammatory markers.
