Effect of platelet-rich fibrin on alveolar ridge preservation: A systematic review
The Journal of the American Dental Association Aug 23, 2019
Pan J, Xu Q, Hou J, et al. - Because platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is the second generation of platelet concentrates and is used in many areas of dentistry, however, whether PRF is effective for alveolar ridge preservation remains contentious, researchers assessed the potential of PRF to preserve the alveolar ridge. Seven published studies from 2012 through 2019 were included among the 588 eligible articles found in the initial search. According to this qualitative analysis, PRF can play a positive role in decreasing postoperative pain and ridge dimension changes after tooth extraction. In the PRF group, smaller mesial bone height changes and a greater percentage of bone fill were noted. Due to the potential value of PRF, after tooth extraction, consideration should be given to PRF. However, to assess the precise role of PRF, more high-quality trials are needed.
