Effect of different liners on pulpal outcome after partial caries removal: A preliminary 12 months randomised controlled trial
Caries Research May 22, 2019
Singh S, et al. - Researchers performed this double-blinded parallel randomized controlled trial investigating how different liners influence the 12-month pulp health outcomes after partial caries removal (PCR) with composite restorations in permanent molars. They randomized 198 participants (116 males, 82 females and age 14–54 years) with vital permanent mature mandibular molars having deep caries involving two-thirds or more of dentin to calcium hydroxide, resin-modified GIC and no liner (DC) groups after PCR. They noted a high success rate with partial caries excavation in treating deep carious lesions in permanent teeth after 12 months of follow-up. This indicates that pulp vitality or restoration survival was not affected by the retention of carious dentin. In addition, the lining material used over the demineralized dentin seemed not influencing the success of the treatment.
