Early wound healing outcomes after regenerative periodontal surgery with enamel matrix derivatives or guided tissue regeneration: A systematic review
BMC Oral Health May 15, 2019
Rojas MA, et al. - Researchers sought for randomized clinical trials or clinical trials comparing regenerative surgery employing enamel matrix derivatives (EMD) and/or guided tissue regeneration (GTR) in patients with chronic periodontitis via performing an electronic literature search in PubMed, in order to compare the early wound healing following regenerative periodontal surgery with either EMD or GTR treatment. They identified 7 studies reporting 220 intrabony periodontal defects in 199 patients. The published studies showed considerable heterogeneity, due to which EMD was not confirmed to have a clear beneficial effect on the early wound healing outcomes after surgical treatment of periodontal intrabony defects.
