Does varicocelectomy improve semen in men with azoospermia and clinically palpable varicocele?
Andrologia Dec 15, 2019
Elbardisi H, et al. - The records of 723 individuals who had microsurgical varicocelectomy and diagnostic testicular biopsy between 2012 and 2016 at a tertiary medical center were reviewed in order to evaluate the efficiency of microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy in nonobstructive azoospermic men with palpable varicocele and to assess predictive parameters of the outcome. In total, 42 individuals were involved. Out of all the factors analyzed, only testicular histopathology notably prognosticated the postvaricocelectomy outcome, where eight of 11 people showed hypospermatogenesis, and three of 11 Sertoli cell-only retrieved spermatozoa in semen. Moreover, in nonobstructive azoospermic men with clinically palpable varicocele, microsurgical varicocelectomy could lead to sperm appearance in the ejaculate with the greatest success expected in hypospermatogenesis.
