Does postoperative alignment affect union in distal femoral fractures?
Current Orthopaedic Practice Apr 26, 2019
Long CW, et al. - Researchers examined data to evaluate the influence of postoperative alignment on the union in distal femoral fractures. Chi-squared analysis, a t-test for 2 independent samples for proportions, and Fisher’s exact tests were included in this study. They estimated radiographs for fracture location, alignment, and for healing. They found a statistically significant difference in the healing of fractures with anatomic alignment as compared to those with nonanatomic alignment. They also noted a statistically significant 51% incline in the healing of fractures with anatomic alignment. A strong correlation between nonanatomic alignment and nonunion was also reported.
