Does experience in prehospital post resuscitation critical care affect outcomes? A retrospective cohort study
Resuscitation Apr 06, 2021
Saviluoto A, Jäntti H, Holm A, et al. - Post resuscitation care is often provided by helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS). Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from a national HEMS quality register with the aim to examine if there are disparities in (1) medical management, (2) achieving treatment targets recommended by resuscitation guidelines, (3) survival, in correlation with physicians’ frequent exposure to prehospital post-resuscitation care. They analyzed a total of 2,272 patients who received post-resuscitation care by a HEMS physician. They divided the patients into three groups: low (0–5), intermediate (6–11) and high exposure (≥ 12 cases). Per observations, physicians with more frequent exposure were identified taking a more active approach to post resuscitation care, however, this did not appear translating into improved survival.
