Does discoid lateral meniscus have inborn peripheral rim instability? Comparison between intact discoid lateral meniscus and normal lateral meniscus

Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Jul 12, 2018

Kim JH, et al. - Experts compared peripheral rim instability (PRI) of the intact DLM (iDLM) to those of intact normal lateral meniscus (LM) in adult patients. They also gauged whether there was any correlation between PRI and DLM tears. In adult patients, greater PRI of the anterior horn (AH) and posterior horn (PH) was demonstrated by both iDLM and torn DLM (tDLM) than the iLM. Therefore, the DLM is prone to tear; so that PRI of a DLM is not overlooked a careful inspection is needed even if the peripheral attachment is intact.
