Banerjee AT, et al. - Authors ascertained diabetes prevalence among immigrants from 5 South Asian countries living in Ontario, Canada. Results demonstrated that among immigrants from different countries of South Asia, striking differences in the prevalence of diabetes were evident. Priorities for the delivery of primary care for specific South Asian migrant populations with a range of settlement needs that also encompass social determinants of health could be recognized with the awareness of the heterogeneity. After standardization for age, sex and income, experts noted that in comparison with the non-immigrant population, diabetes prevalence was highest among South Asians from Sri Lanka followed by Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and Nepal.
