Differences in mortality of new-onset (de-novo) acute heart failure vs acute decompensated chronic heart failure

The American Journal of Cardiology May 31, 2019

Younis A, et al. - By analyzing data of acute heart failure (AHF, n=2,328) patients enrolled in the HF survey in Israel (HFSIS), researchers evaluated the differences in outcomes between new-onset (de-novo) AHF patients (n=721) vs acutely decompensated chronic HF (ADCHF, n=1,607). Both groups exhibited similar death rates at 30 days. Patients with ADCHF had significantly higher all-cause mortality rates at 1 and 10 years. They identified previous history of HF as an independent predictor of 1 year and 10 year mortality following hospitalization for AHF. Stratification of patients with AHF may be improved by better understanding the distinction between de-novo AHF and ADCHF.
