Dialysis modality and mortality in polycystic kidney disease
Hemodialysis International Jun 01, 2018
Zhou C, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from cohort studies comparing hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) as treatment modalities for patients with polycystic kidney disease (PKD), focusing on mortality and survival. The goal was to investigate if the mortality and survival were different among individuals receiving HD comparing PD. They calculated pooled risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for dichotomous data. They found that different dialysis modalities in PKD did not differ significantly with respect to mortality and survival and PD may be as successful as HD for PKD patients receiving renal replacement therapy.
