Diagnostic performance of retinopathy in the detection of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 45 studies
Ophthalmic Research Jul 03, 2019
Jiang S, et al. - In type 2 diabetics with kidney disease, researchers sought to perform evidence-based diabetic retinopathy (DR) assessment for diabetes nephropathy (DN) diagnosis. Participants in the study were 4,561 patients from 45 studies. According to results, a bivariate analysis yielded a sensitivity of 0.67 and a specificity of 0.78. The authors concluded that DR can help with the diagnosis of DN in individuals with type 2 diabetes and kidney disease, but the severity of DR may not mirror that of DN.
