Development and evaluation of multiplex real time PCR for diagnosis of HSV-1, VZV, CMV and T. gondii in patients with infectious uveitis

Kumar A, et al. – This trial entailed the formulation of a multiplex real time PCR for the diagnosis of Herpes simplex virus -1 (HSV–1), Varicella zoster virus (VZV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) in patients with suspected infectious uveitis. It was found that the development of highly sensitive and specific assay for early differentiation of pathogens was vital for the early initiation of therapy. Hence, it assisted in preventing an irreversible damage to the ocular structures.
