Determination of the patient acceptable symptomatic state after osteocapsular arthroplasty for primary elbow osteoarthritis
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Feb 03, 2021
Kim H, Kwak JM, Kholinne E, et al. - This research was sought to ascertain Patient Acceptable Symptomatic State (PASS) values for the pain visual analog scale (PVAS), range of motion scale (ROM) difference, Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS), and self-evaluation elbow (SEE) following osteocapsular arthroplasty for primary elbow osteoarthritis, and to identify factors for achieving PASS. Osteocapsular arthroplasty registry data from January 2010 to April 2019 were retrospectively collected. Researchers assessed 50 patients, and anchor questions for deriving PASS values were administered at a 1-year follow-up. The results of this study demonstrate that the reliable PASS values were derived for the PVAS, ROM difference, MEPS and SEE scores after osteocapsular arthroplasty. In the current study, PASS values characterized can be implemented as a clinically relevant target treatment for patients that undergoes osteocapsular arthroplasty. An analysis of factors that affect clinical symptom improvement exhibited that older age (age 65 years or older) was significantly associated with lower PASS for PVAS and ROM.
