Detection of early stage gastric cancers in screening laser endoscopy using linked color imaging for patients with atrophic gastritis

Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nov 13, 2020

Yamaoka M, Imaeda H, Miyaguchi K, et al. - In patients with atrophic gastritis, researchers evaluated if they could detect gastric cancers on screening endoscopy using white light imaging (WLI), along with using blue laser imaging in bright mode (BLI‐bright) and linked color imaging (LCI). Among 500 recruited patients with atrophic gastritis undergoing screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy, 16 gastric neoplasms (3.2%) were identified, of which 13 were early gastric cancers (EGCs) and three were gastric adenomas. For LCI‐detected or BLI‐bright‐detected lesions, the mean diameter of the lesions was significantly less than that observed for WLI‐detected lesions (7.8 vs 21.2 mm). Findings support the utility of laser endoscopy for identifying EGCs by LCI for patients with atrophic gastritis.
