Detection of distant metastasis and prognostic prediction of recurrent salivary gland carcinomas using 18F-FDG PET/CT
Oral Diseases Jun 15, 2018
Lee SH, et al. - Researchers compared the diagnostic accuracy of 18F-FDG PET/CT and conventional contrast-enhanced CT for re-staging recurrent salivary gland carcinoma (SGC). They involved 58 consecutive patients who underwent recurrent SGCs after definitive treatment. They used McNemar's test to compare the diagnostic accuracy of 18F-FDG PET/CT with standard neck and chest CT imaging. In addition, a Cox proportional hazards model was used to assess the prognostic value of PET/CT. For detecting distant site recurrences of SGC, 18F-FDG PET/CT is a more effective method than CT, and this might lead to the prognostic prediction for recurrent SGCs.
