Annals of Surgical Oncology Feb 02, 2018
Arsoniadis EG, et al. - Researchers herein explore if African American (AA) patients with rectal cancer receive sphincter-preserving surgery at the same rate as non-AA patients. Data revealed a lower rated of sphincter-preserving surgery among the AA patients with rectal cancer than the non-AA patients, even after adjustment for patient- and hospital-specific factors. They demonstrate that for the surgical community, eliminating racial disparities in rectal cancer treatment ought to continue as a priority.
