Hosomura N, et al. - The clinicians designed and validated a natural language processing algorithm to recognize insulin therapy decline from the text of physician notes, and to ascertain the prevalence of insulin therapy decline and its effect on insulin initiation. They concluded that insulin therapy decline was common, possibly leading to progression of hyperglycaemia and a delay in achievement of glycaemic control. To determine the reasons, risk factors and long-term outcomes of this important clinical phenomenon, further investigation was needed.
