Day-surgery percutaneous nephrolithotomy: A high-volume center retrospective experience
World Journal of Urology Sep 21, 2019
Wu X, Zhao Z, Sun H, et al. - A protocol for day-surgery percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) was undertaken and a retrospective analysis of all 86 cases of planned day-surgery PCNL achieved by an experienced surgeon who followed this protocol between May 2017 and March 2019, was done in order to ascertain the safety and outcome of day-surgery PCNL by experienced surgeon hands. A total of 82 patients attained same-day discharge or received overnight observation former to discharge, and 4 patients needed full admission. In 10 patients, the postoperative complications occurred, comprising 7, 2, 2 of grade I, II, III complications, respectively. The established tracts size varied from 16 to 22Fr. In 60.5%, the tubeless without nephrostomy tube was done. Eight cases were done by multiple-tracts PCNL with 2–4 tracts, along with just two cases needing full admission. Therefore, experienced surgeons who did day-surgery PCNL experience superior patient outcomes in suitably selected individuals. Most complications could be treated conservatively and only a few needed intervention or readmission.
