Cumulative prognostic score predicting mortality in patients older than 80 years admitted to the ICU
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Apr 19, 2019
de Lange DW, et al. - In this prospective cohort study conducted at 306 intensive care units (ICUs) from 24 European countries, researchers proposed a scoring system model for mortality prediction within 30 days of admission of patients older than 80 years of age admitted to ICUs. Overall, 3,730 admissions (median age: 84 years; 51.8% male) were included. Age, sex, ICU admission diagnosis, Clinical Frailty Scale, Sequential Organ Failure Score, invasive mechanical ventilation, and renal replacement therapy were the selected independent predictors of mortality in multivariable analysis. With good discrimination, accuracy, and calibration, the model predicted 30-day mortality in 91.1% of all patients who died, at a cut point of ≥ 10 (75% of all patients).
